2022 Jax Student Poetry Contest

Earlier this year, a simple call went out to local students: submit an original poem, not to exceed one page in length, celebrating Jacksonville’s Bicentennial. Students were given a simple prompt: "Looking back, moving forward. Take a look back at our City's history while imagining our bold future!” Last month, winners were notified and given the opportunity to read their award-winning poems on camera.

Get Back To School Ready With The Library's Back To School Boot Camp!

Join us for two weeks of back to school fun as we gear up and get excited for a new school year. In our various programs we will read stories, complete crafts, get organized, and learn mindfulness techniques to help you get ready for school! These programs are for ages 5-12 and will take the place of our regularly scheduled Junior Scientists, Junior Artists, and Junior Readers programs. You can join us either in branch or virtually.

Lit Chat with Madeline Martin, Saturday, July 30, at 1 pm. This event will take place live at the Main Library’s Hicks Auditorium and will be livestreamed online via Zoom. Martin will sign books after the event. Books will be available to purchase on-site or in advance from sponsor San Marco Books or you can bring a book purchased from your favorite bookseller.

July is Graphic Novels in Libraries Month! Started in 2019 to bring attention to and promote the growing graphic novel and comics collections in our nation’s libraries, the month-long celebration coincides with the world’s biggest fandom event, San Diego Comic Con. In addition to highlighting collections and their accessibility through digital library apps like Hoopla, Graphic Novel Month is a great opportunity to show the range of formats, genres, characters and benefits that these mediums have to offer.
