Junior Scholars: In Deep Waters

Junior Scholars | Oceans of Possibility

We're going to get in waaaay over our heads with this week's theme...In Deep Waters. In week five of Oceans of Possibilities, we'll learn how scientists are able to learn about and study what goes on in the remotest parts of the ocean, as well as what kind of life forms call it home. Come to some programs this week; anytime you visit a Library you get tickets for prizes, as well as free books for tracking your daily reading!

Junior Scholars: Octopuses

Junior Scholars | Oceans of Possibility

We've made it to the fourth full week of Summer Reading: Oceans of Possibilities! It's the halfway point!! By now, I'm sure you've earned a free book or two and some fun prizes for visiting the Library. Keep up the great work! This week, we are going to learn all about octopuses (and yes, that's a correct plural). Scientists have learned how amazingly intelligent they are—some have escaped from sealed tanks in aquariums and returned to the ocean! Join us this week to satisfy your curiosity about these clever cephalopods.

Junior Scholars: Sharks

Junior Scholars | Oceans of Possibility

It's the third full week of Summer Reading: Oceans of Possibilities, and this week, the featured sea animal is the most feared (and misunderstood) in the ocean: sharks! For centuries, they were needlessly hunted and killed until scientists were able to really study them and gather more information (turns out, they don't want us for lunch!).

Junior Scholars: Dolphins

Junior Scholars | Oceans of Possibility

I'm sure you all are off and running with your summer plans! Hopefully, that includes participating in the Library's Summer Reading Program: Oceans of Possibilities. Welcome to the first full week! Each week in June will feature a different sea creature. This week, it's dolphins! If you check out the St. Johns River early in the morning or can visit our beaches, you will definitely see dolphins out frolicking in the water. All of our programs this week will focus on these highly intelligent mammals—join us and earn tickets for prizes! Also, keep track of your daily reading; you can earn up to FOUR free books this summer. Reading trackers are available at all libraries at the Children's Desk.
