Don't worry, no one's in distress. Quite the opposite, actually – we're celebrating the return of life to the trees and flowers all around us and marking the countdown to summer! Check out some of the reads and resources below that put a spotlight on spring, and tag @jaxlibrary to share your thoughts.
READ: Seasons of the Storm by Elle Cosimano
Jack Sommers is given a second chance at life as an immortal responsible for changing the weather on Earth. As Winter, every year he must hunt down Autumn, who comes before him, and run from Spring, who tries to kill him. Against all odds, Jack finds himself falling for Spring, and the two try to break the cycle that seeks to force them apart. But their creator won't let them go without a fight!
Questions to think about while you read:
- What things about spring do you like most and least?
- Is there anything you do in spring that you can't do other times of the year?
- How would you feel if there wasn't spring?
LISTEN: Bringing City Spaces Back to Life
Have you heard of the seed bombs? Turns out, the trend isn't new! Listen in to learn more about this radical act of gardening as Vox connects the past to the present in an episode of Missing Chapter!
Questions to think about while you listen:
- How would you describe the landscape around your area?
- Which native plants and flowers you would like to see more of?
- What steps can you take to galvanize community awareness and/or action?
EXPLORE: Face Planters
The May Day tradition of delivering baskets full of flowers may be outdated nowadays, but that doesn't mean you can't still get the word out that spring is officially in full swing. Grab an old container, poke some drainage holes in the bottom, decorate it with a funny face drawing and introduce some lucky plant or flower to its new home! Then take a picture and tag @jaxlibrary to share your creativity!
