Teen Think Tank: Breaking Barriers

The Library has an AMAZING collection of books featuring stories and information written by and about people from varied backgrounds, races, ethnicities, life experiences, and viewpoints. We love to share selections that demonstrate the range of our collection all year and we encourage you to explore these books with us!

How strong are you? Most of us, when asked this question, would seek to answer with some form of physical test. Women's history has shown, however, that the concept of strength extends beyond just agility to encompass everything from determination and resilience to introspection and empathy. Check out the reads and resources below to reimagine what it takes to make groundbreaking changes.

This guide explores the lives of an array of exceptional and diverse women in the Marvel-Verse – ranging from well-known characters, like She-Hulk and Black Widow, to the lesser-known like Gwenpool and Mantis. Each profile is filled with inspirational lessons and clever observations, really digging into what these relatable women can teach us about growth, bravery, and the true meaning of strength.

Questions to think about while you read:

  • How are female superheroes similar to and different from the male characters?
  • In what ways do you think these personalities accurately represent women?
