Free Author Events and Writers Workshops for Adults in November

Tuesday, October 27, 2026

Adults sit, picnic style, in a park in front of a college campus with Library U: Never Stop Learning in the sky above them.

This November, watch and discuss a fixed gear bicycle documentary with local cyclists, learn how to craft and publish your own graphic novel from writer/illustrator Michael Regina, meet bestselling and award-winning author Katherine Reay, or improve your day-to-day life with Life Lab workshops.

#Screening Room: Böikzmöind: A Fixed Gear Bicycle Documentary

Join us during Art Walk for a screening of Böikzmöind at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at the Main Library, followed by a brief presentation and Q&A led by Joey Marchy, Jacksonville Cyclist.

About the film: "Böikzmöind is a 30 minute film about riding fixed gear bikes in Bristol, UK. The film shows the diverse cross section of riders and asks why ride bikes with no gears in a city full of hills. It also shines a light on the community and camaraderie that comes with the simple joy of riding bicycles.

#History Chat: The American Revolution Comes to Florida

Most of the fighting that occurred in the American South during the Revolutionary War is not well-documented or known. However, it can be argued that is where the war was won, even before the Battle of Yorktown. Guest presenter Richard Eason joins us from 7 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 8, at the Southeast Regional Library to talk about the southernmost battle of the war, which was fought near present-day Jacksonville.

Eason is an adjunct professor of political science and public administration at the University of North Florida, a retired U.S. diplomat, and graduate of the College of William and Mary, where he studied the Revolutionary War.
