This November 5th, the Main Library stays open until 9 p.m. for the festivities. Pick up a Map & Guide to the Main Library on your way in. Art Tours of the Main Library
Augusta Savage, Al Held, Kathryn Freeman, Lee Adams, Jerry Uelsmann. Do you know that works by these artists and many more are on permanent display at the Main Library? Come take a 20-minute docent-led tour during Art Walk and rediscover these remarkable paintings, sculptures, and photographs. Tours start every half hour starting at 6 p.m. Meet the docent by the Art Tours sign in the Pajcic Promenade (the entry/hallway on the first floor).
Featured Artist
This month's featured artist is Stephanie Welchans. See her work on display on the third floor of Main Library.
'Wit and Whimsy is a solo show with 22 pieces. Depicting the world and its participants the way that I see and feel them is what I enjoy. The beauty of the color wheel is that it is a guide, not an absolute. I can paint the world 'realistically' but where is the fun in that? The unifying element behind most of my pieces is a certain color exuberance.'
'I have rediscovered the joy in the process of drawing as the official working world has started to be in my rearview, and I now have the flexibility to spend the necessary time. It helps that I have great support from family and friends, and very tolerant instructors.'
'Being a member of the Jacksonville Artists Guild and The Art Center Cooperative as well as other regional and some national organizations keeps me apprised of the creativity of my contemporaries. I rely heavily on a group of friends who critique my works and their own in a clear and honest manner. One learns from one's mistakes. When the mind turns on at 3 a.m., I do pay attention when it solves my creative dilemmas.'
There's a reception during Art Walk, from 5pm to 7pm. The show will be on display until the 30th of January.
