Teen Volunteer at Webb Wesconnett Library Enjoys Helping Community

Volunteer Jack at Webb Wesconnett Library

Jack is one of the most passionate teen volunteers at Webb Wesconnett Library. They have not missed a Teen Advisory Board meeting since even before they became a volunteer in January 2025. Along with their friend, Jacob, they have helped with crafts and displays and organizing our art supplies.

What inspired you to volunteer for the library?

I was here all the time. Plus, I really liked the idea of working with kids. And I like that the library is a quiet space where I really feel like I can be myself. Now, I want to work with the library once I turn 18 and hopefully, start saving for medical school.

What is the most rewarding part about volunteering for the library?

There are a lot of rewarding parts. It sounds like a boring answer, but the most rewarding feeling is helping the community. I really enjoyed helping with the crafts for the kids at the Art Exhibition. It was overwhelming, but also so much fun!

Is there anything you've learned about the library since becoming a volunteer that you wish more people knew about?

The Dewey Decimal System. It makes finding books so much easier! I wish I’d known about it before.

Is there a book you recommend that everyone reads?

The Last Pick [by Jason Walz]! It’s a graphic novel about aliens invading the world. The aliens are like some of the worst dictators. It’s such an amazing story. I cried reading it. There are 3 books in the series, before it ended. It had a really good ending too, not one of those rushed or drawn-out endings!
