READ: Eating the Alphabet: Fruits and Vegetables from A to Z by Lois Ehlert
Use your library card or get a library card here!
An alphabetical tour of the world of fruits and vegetables, from apricot and artichoke to yam and zucchini.
Increase pre-literacy skills as you read together:
- Use the glossary at the back of the book as a pronunciation guide and to learn more about the featured foods.
- The name of each food is printed twice, in both upper- and lower-case letters. Pause while reading and ask your little one to match uppercase and lowercase letters. Call out a letter then ask your little learner to point to find the letter on the page.
- Encourage your little one to describe different fruits or veggies. If needed, ask questions like these:
- What color is the banana?
- What shape are the blueberries?
- How many ears of corn are there? Are they the same color?
