#7 FREE THINGS You Can Do with a Library Card!

  1. Borrow books, e-books, audiobooks, movies, TV shows, music, magazines, and special items like WiFi hotspots and Chromebooks. Or bring storytime home with a Traveling Tales Kit (themed book bundles with activities for preschoolers).
  2. Place a hold on books and other items in person, over the phone, or through the Library website. Then, pick up at your preferred location.
  3. Meet bestselling authors, sign up for writer’s workshops, and attend events and classes for all ages—from storytime for your little readers to GED Test Prep classes for adults.
  4. Access research tools, genealogy resources, language learning, and on-demand training for a variety of technology and business skills.
  5. Use public computers, printers, and WiFi. You can even print from your mobile device! You can also scan and preserve old family photos and home videos in our Memory Lab at Main Library.
  6. Study, read, play and meet friends in our comfortable, public spaces or reserve a private study room for less noise and distraction.
  7. Get help from the search experts! Our librarians are here to help you find what you need—whether it’s a book recommendation or a primary source for your History Fair project. If we don’t have it, we can get it from another library with our free Interlibrary Loan service.

#TOP 5 THINGS New Cardholders Ask

  1. How many items can I borrow? You can borrow up to 100 items (books, audiobooks, CDs) at a time from the physical collection. Certain restrictions apply to DVDs, lendable technology and other special items.
  2. How long can I keep what I borrow? Most items can be borrowed for three weeks (21 days). Check your receipt or My Account for due dates. We’ll also send email notifications (so make sure we have your current email address). Some popular items, like DVDs, can only be borrowed for one week. Please note: The loan period for digital checkouts on Libby, Hoopla, and Kanopy are set by the vendor.
  3. What if I need more time? Most items will automatically renew. Eligible items will auto-renew three days before the due date (up to five times). An item will not renew if someone else has placed a hold on it.
  4. What if items are returned late? There are no overdue fines for items returned late. However, lost or damaged items still incur replacement fees.
  5. Can I return items to a different Library? You can return borrowed items to any Jacksonville Public Library location. Note: Chromebooks and hotspots must be returned to the original check out location.
