# Writing Creatively About Locale
Learn how poets use vivid imagery, sensory details, and cultural references to transport readers to specific locations. In this interactive workshop, you'll delve into the profound connection between poetry and locale through a series of engaging activities and discussions. Participants will generate their own work, and discover how landscapes, cities, and personal surroundings can serve as powerful catalysts for creative expression.
Celebrate Poetry Month on Saturday, April 13, at Willow Branch Library!
We’ll have a doubleheader of poetry programs, starting with a Lit Chat Author Talk with Poet Lola Haskins from 11-11:30 a.m. She’ll read from her newest collection of poetry, Homelight, and have copies available for sale after the program. Homelight (Charlotte Lit Press 2023) is her 14th poetry collection and was named Poetry Book of the Year by Southern Literary Review.
Then stick around for Writer's Lab: There's No Place Like Poem: Writing Creatively About Locale with Anna Claire Hodge from 12-2 p.m. She will end the session with a reading of her work and a Q&A.
Dr. Anna Claire Hodge is a poet and former professor of creative writing. She holds a Ph.D and MFA in poetry, and her work has appeared in numerous publications both literary and mainstream. She also writes custom poetry for gifting, weddings, and all special occasions. Find her work in Charleston Magazine, Mid-American Review, Hayden's Ferry Review, Best New Poets 2013, and many others!
