How to Place a Hold

Note: There is a "bug" in the new catalog. Until it is fixed and "US Postal Service" becomes an option again when placing a hold, you can either call us at (904) 255-BOOK to place them over the phone or you can select your own materials by clicking "Place hold" and selecting "Main Library" as your pick up location. As long as you're a registered Books by Mail customer, staff will know to manually change your holds requests to home delivery.

Jacksonville Public Library offers a free program that delivers library materials by mail to Duval County residents who cannot come to the library due to illness or disability. A Jax Library card, Duval County residence, and self-certification of a temporary or permanent disability or illness are required to apply.

A library card is required. If you are a resident adult, you can apply for a library card online. If you are completing this form on behalf of a minor (under 18 years old), you will need to visit your nearest library location in person to apply for a juvenile card. Note: You will be responsible for what they borrow. Please bring one piece of identification for each of you. For more information, read our Customer Accounts and Privileges Policy. For questions or to renew an expired card, you can also call (904) 255-2665.
