Adult Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Library!

Your application will be reviewed by the staff, and you will be contacted via email for the next steps. We receive more applications than we have openings. Not everyone who applies will be selected for an opening. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Adults must complete an interview and the required paperwork and pass the City’s background screening prior to volunteering. This may involve being fingerprinted at City Hall in Downtown Jacksonville. The paperwork will be provided to the applicant if they are selected.

If you have a business or organization that is interested in group volunteering, please contact us at JPLVolunteers@coj.net

Play Champion

Play Champions lead engaging, age appropriate games that build social skills, creativity, and confidence. These volunteers are responsive to the interests of the kids and provide opportunities for play based on the interests and needs of their audience.

Program & Event Volunteer

Assist with program and special events: setting up and breaking down the room, registration, audience Q&A, book signing, photography, greeting attendees, assisting with activities, distributing materials, and other tasks. These programs and special events rotate between most of the 21 Libraries and may occur on weekdays, weeknights, or Saturdays.

Therapy Animal Volunteer

Our Reading with a Therapy Animal activity allows young children to practice their reading skills and gain confidence in reading aloud by reading to a therapy dog or cat in a safe, nonjudgmental setting. Each child will select a book from our collection or bring their own book and will read aloud to the therapy animal and their handler for 10-15 minutes. The children and their parents/guardians may ask to pet the animal.
