Teen Volunteer Enjoys Solving Problems

Abdellah has been volunteering with the Main Library since August 2024 and has contributed over 71 hours in that time. He has been an outstanding volunteer, consistently demonstrating kindness, efficiency, and a positive attitude. He has helped with a variety of tasks, from replacing endcaps on shelves and correcting misplaced books to assisting with general shelving and presorting. Beyond daily tasks, he has also supported larger events, such as facilitating goodie bag giveaways at summer closing parties and managing the button-making station during the Duval Comic and Zine Fest. Courteous, friendly, and always willing to lend a hand, Abdellah is not only smart and reliable but also is a genuine pleasure to work with. The team is truly grateful for his time and contributions.

What inspired you to volunteer for the Library? I chose to volunteer at the library because when I was younger, I loved learning new ideas, which led me to the library in elementary and middle school. I would always be around books. So, I wanted to volunteer in a place that has given me so much.

What is the most rewarding part about volunteering for the Library? When I help people, I see the indirect results. I enjoy helping solve people’s problems.

What books do you recommend? Two books that I really enjoyed reading were Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and One Piece by E. Odo. The reason why I would recommend Frankenstein is because the story is really interesting with multiple perspectives: the Creature’s, Victor’s, and Walton’s. I’d recommend One Piece, because it has every aspect that a reader can look for in a book and has a great main cast.

Who would win in a fight between Frankenstein's monster and Monkey D. Luffy [from One Piece]? I would say Luffy, because Frankenstein's monster is only like three times stronger than a regular dude, but Luffy can destroy entire islands using his devil fruit powers.
