Homework Helper for Elementary and Middle School Students

Homework Helpers provide light academic support during after school hours, helping elementary and middle school students with directions, organization, and simple study strategies so they can stay productive and confident. These volunteers encourage persistence, share study skills, and maintain a calm, supportive environment.

Examples of Work:

  • Sit with students to review homework instructions, breaking tasks into manageable steps.
  • Provide strategies for homework completion in various subject areas (math, science, reading).
  • Guide students in using Microsoft products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and cloud-based storage support (OneDrive or Google).  
  • Help students upload/submit assignments.

Minimum age: 19 years.
Qualifications: Ability to perform assigned tasks in an independent, friendly, and professional manner. General knowledge of academic skills (basic operations and word problems, reading comprehension, sentence level writing and editing) and the ability to explain concepts in kid-friendly steps. Technologically proficient with Microsoft 365 apps, web browsing, cloud storage, and basic troubleshooting (logins, file saving, printing).  Clear communication with children.
Availability: Monday - Thursday, 2:30-4 pm
Locations: University Park
Number of volunteers needed: 1-3
