Library Staff and Guests to Celebrate 29 Years of Calendar’s Publication
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Jan. 8, 2018 – The Jacksonville Public Library is pleased to host the 29th Annual Unveiling of the Jacksonville Black History Calendar. For decades the Black History Calendar has served as a reminder to celebrate the achievements of African-Americans year-round. The event is open to the public. Free calendars and light refreshments will be provided.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Dec. 14, 2017 — The Board of Library Trustees on Dec. 14 voted to extend the offer of the position of library director of Jacksonville Public Library to Tim Rogers, previous executive director of the Metropolitan Library System in Oklahoma City, OK, at the recommendation of the library director search committee. Rogers has accepted the offer and will begin in the new role on Jan. 29, 2018. Rogers succeeds former Director Barbara A. B. Gubbin who retired from the library June 30, 2017.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Oct. 25, 2017 — The Brentwood Branch Library reopened its doors Saturday, Oct. 14 following a two month closure to replace carpet, repaint the interior and add six computers. To celebrate the reopening, a grand reopening ceremony is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 30 at 3 p.m. with the Friends of the Brentwood Library’s Fall Back into Brentwood fall festival immediately following.

Book drop and customer hold pickup service will also be available when the branch reopens.

Authors and library locations will vary each month. All author talks are free and open to the public.
Successful Program Makes ‘Tremendous Economic Impact’ on Community
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Aug. 30, 2017 — Jacksonville Public Library on Sept. 5 will celebrate the graduation of 24 students who have earned high school diplomas and career certificates through Smart Horizons Career Online High School (COHS), an innovative program for adult learners offered at Jacksonville Public Library’s Center for Adult Learning.
