Hello, I wanted to share a short message of introduction to let you know how excited I am to be joining the Jacksonville Public Library team. As you can imagine, my wife Carla and I have been pretty busy over the past month celebrating the holidays with family and prepping for our new life in North Florida. We found a place to live on the Southside, got our Florida driver’s licenses and car tags, and most importantly, went to our new home branch, Southeast Regional, to register for library cards. We are officially Jaxsons (or Jacksonvillians, if you prefer)!
The library’s Center for Adult Learning (CAL) and our partners at the Literacy Alliance of Northeast Florida (formerly Learn to Read) wouldn’t be what they are today—places where adults can learn to read, learn English as a second language, prepare for GED classes and testing—without the vision, innovation and passion of Jean Ulmer Brinkman.
Robot wars, GED graduates, 3-D printer services, just a few reasons why we've been named the 2017 Library of the Year by Florida Library Association! Among 800 libraries in Florida, including public, academic, special and school libraries, we are thrilled to be recognized among the best and we can't wait to share this news with our community. In fact, the award recognizes the particular work that libraries do in the community it serves. This award comes right on the heels of the American Library Association’s announcement that JPL Director Barbara Gubbin earned the 2017 Ernest A.
