Celebrate Picture Books With Your Little One at the Library

November is Picture Book Month

There's nothing quite like turning the page of a beautifully crafted picture book... In November and all year long, Jacksonville Public Library celebrates the power and beauty of picture books as well as their importance in building key early literacy skills. Whether you join us at your favorite branch for Little Readers storytime or create your own storytime at home with a free Traveling Tales book bundles and activity kit, the Library is here to support your child on their journey to reading readiness and success.

Fourth of July Books for Kids

Books to Celebrate July 4

How does your family celebrate our nation's independence? Maybe you wake up early on the Fourth of July to bake that all-American apple pie? Or do you spend the whole morning preparing for that big barbeque in the backyard or picnic in the park? Of course, there are also parades and fireworks and all sorts of fun traditions! The Library has books (for all ages) that reflect the grand diversity and the rich tapestry that make our country and our community here in Jacksonville so great. We've highlighted a few of those books (for young readers) here!

Children's Books That Spark Change

Books that spark change: Children's Book Week

Established in 1919, Children’s Book Week is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country. Every year, young people across the country participate by attending events at schools, libraries and bookstores or by celebrating at home and engaging with book creators both online and in person. This year’s theme speaks to the power that books and stories have to inspire positive change. Books can spark change within an individual reader, a family, a classroom, or a whole community.
