Farm Share Giveaway, Backpack Giveaway and Spelling Bee at Friends of Brentwood Library10th Annual Back-2-School Bash
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., August 4, 2023 — If your kids need school supplies, you'll want to get to Brentwood Branch Library (3725 N Pearl St., 32206) by Friday, August 11 to reserve a free backpack filled with things your kids need for a successful school year. The Friends of Brentwood Library will have 600 backpacks available for pickup for at the library between 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 12.
Mayor Donna Deegan is looking forward to visiting the library during the backpack giveaway so she can meet children and families in attendance. The mayor will visit from approximately 11 - 11:30 a.m., help distribute backpacks, and share her passion for literacy with the community.
Mayor Deegan will also pick up her new "Jax Icons" library card during the event. "One of the most important school supplies you can have is your library card," said Mayor Deegan. "I look forward to getting my new card, and I join the Library in their vision of having at least three out every four households in Jacksonville using or contributing to the Library in the next 10 years."
In addition to the backpack giveaway, there will be a farm share giveaway from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m., and a spelling bee from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. There are $600 in gift card prizes for spelling bee winners; $100 for the elementary school winner, $200 for the middle school winner, and $300 for the high school winner.

About Brentwood Branch Library
Brentwood Branch Library opened in the 9,200-square-foot Brentwood Theatre building in 1961 to replace the 1,200-square-foot Springfield Library. In 2017 the branch was updated with new carpet, furniture, and the addition of six computers. After the renovation, the branch was reorganized to provide youth programs and resources on the first floor, and adult services on the second floor.
Jacksonville Public Library is committed to making its programs accessible to all persons. If you need special accommodations, please ask for the Special Needs Library at (904) 255-2665 or email your request to JPLTBSpecialNeeds@coj.net at least 72 hours prior to the event.
