Community Invited to Get Involved in Design of New Library on New Berlin Road
Open meetings to be held April 5 and 6 for community members to ask questions and provide input
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., March 14, 2023 – A new library is coming to New Berlin Road in northeast Duval County, and Jacksonville Public Library and PQH Group Design need your help making it a big success for the neighborhood!
The community is invited to two public meetings on April 5 and 6 regarding the future library on New Berlin Road. Architecture firm PQH Group Design will share the design process and then open the floor for questions and suggestions from the crowd. The group hopes to learn what is most important to the area when it comes to how they find library materials, use library spaces, interact with their neighbors, utilize technology, and more.
WHAT: Community Meetings for New Berlin Road Library Design
- Meeting #1: Wednesday, April 5 at 4 p.m.
- Meeting #2: Thursday, April 6 at 7 p.m.
Since the construction of new libraries during the period of the Better Jacksonville Plan, Oceanway, San Mateo, and northeast Duval County have experienced tremendous population growth. While a locker system provides some library service to the area, the city recognizes the value of giving the community a full library location. The site has been selected, and the architecture firm is working to make the idea a reality.
"We hope everyone who has ideas and questions attends these meetings, as the best decisions are made if the community participates in the design process," says Chief Librarian and Library Director, Tim Rogers. "People use libraries today much differently than in the past. We want to know how we can make this location an integral part of the lives of Oceanway, and northeast Duval County residents."
The mission of Jacksonville Public Library is to enrich lives, build community and foster success by bringing people, information and ideas together. Last year, more than 3.1 million visits were made to Jacksonville Public Libraries, items were checked out more than 4.7 million times, and over 15,000 programs and services were offered to Duval County residents at the Main Library and 20 branch locations.
