National Military Appreciation Month

# Honoring Those Who Serve and Their Families

National Military Appreciation Month recognizes the incredible service, sacrifices and dedication of all members of the U.S. Armed Forces, both active and retired, as well their families. Jacksonville is home to multiple military facilities such as Naval Air Station (NAS) Jacksonville, Naval Station Mayport, Marine Corps Blount Island Command, and Camp Blanding Joint Training Center.

The observance runs May 1 to 31 each year and includes Loyalty Day, Military Spouse Appreciation Day, Armed Forces Day, and most notably, Memorial Day. Please note: All Jacksonville Public Library locations will be closed on Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day. We resume normal operating hours on Tuesday, May 27.

This month, read more about the people who make up our nation's military and the role they play in keeping this country safe.

Veterans Museum Kiosk

Connect with veterans’ stories in a powerful and immersive way! The Veterans Museum recently installed an In-Person Kiosk on the fourth floor of the Main Library in the Special Collections department, next to the Memory Lab.

This interactive station is designed to preserve, honor, and share real accounts of military service, sacrifice, and courage. Jacksonville Public Library is proud to be part of an initiative to support veterans, educate the public, and become part of a national storytelling initiative.

We know that many veterans have military records on microfiche or compact disc. While you're here, check out the Memory Lab. It has microfiche machines and disc drives available free of charge to view, print or even transfer these important records into a digital format. Staff are here to assist with this process. For more information about our digitization stations, visit jaxlibrary.org/memory.
