LGBTQ+ History Month

Countless lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer individuals have left their mark on U.S. and world history. LGBTQ+ History Month is an annual observance of those individuals, their achievements, as well as the impact they have had on the arts, science, and more. It is celebrated in October to coincide with National Coming Out Day (October 11) and to commemorate the first and second marches on Washington in 1979 and 1987 for LGBT rights.

Jacksonville's 2SLGBTQIA+ community and their allies celebrate this month, in part, with a 1.5-mile River City Pride Parade. It starts at Willowbranch Park in Riverside—the site of Jacksonville’s first LGBT Pride Picnic in 1978—and ends at the 5 Points business district. This year, the parade is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 5.
