LGBTQ+ History Month is an annual observance of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history. It is celebrated in October to coincide with National Coming Out Day (October 11) and to commemorate the first and second marches on Washington in 1979 and 1987 for LGBT rights.
Our local LGBTQIA+ community and allies celebrate LGBT History Month every year, in part, with a 1.5-mile River City Pride Parade. It starts at Willowbranch Park in Riverside, the most prominent and historic LGBTQIA+ community here in Jacksonville, and ends at the 5 Points business district.
