Lit Chat Author Talk with Karen S. Chow

#A Story of Grief, Love, and Hope

"When her father dies, Amie’s ability to play music dies, too. Nothing short of a miracle can bring back what she has lost." Karen S. Chow's lyrical narrative, Miracle, is a story about the complexity of grief - told in a way that's accessible to children. It has earned praise from Booklist, Publisher's Weekly, and others. She was also awarded the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators Desert Sunrise Scholarship for OwnVoices in 2021 and the Out from the Margins Award in 2022.

“Miracle is a deeply personal and moving account of one girl’s grief. It is a story about life and loss and—most of all—hope.” ~Mary E. Lambert, author of Family Game Night and Other Catastrophes

Karen refers to her debut novel as a "heart story," combining her love for music with her experiences witnessing her father passing away from pancreatic cancer. "With hope and harmony lighting the way—and with help from the people who care about her most—Amie must find the strength to carry on." Learn more about this remarkable book at a special author event intended for kids, ages 5-12.
