#Celebrating Our Stories
March 27 - April 1 is Celebrate Reading Week in Jacksonville! As an adult who loves reading, you already know the power of stories! You also know how important it is for everyone, but especially for children, to see themselves reflected in the pages of the books they read.
Books can be mirrors for a child wondering where they fit in. They can also be windows, giving them a look at the lives of others. When we all have the power to tell our own stories, in our own voices, that's really something special.
Patricia J. Murphy is an award-winning children's author and a passionate literacy advocate who believes in giving children the tools they need to capture their big ideas and share them with the world.
Junior Lit Chat with Patricia J. Murphy, Wednesday, March 29, from 6 - 6:30 p.m. This event will take place live in the Children's Room at the Highlands Library and is intended for kids in grades K-2. Space is limited!
The first 20 attendees will receive a free copy of Hope for the Elephants and a book signing will follow.
Patricia will present "BIGGER BETTER Story Ideas in 30 Days or Less!" Kids will discover the hows, ways, and whys to get BIGGER and BETTER ideas for stories, nonfiction, and poetry—and what to do with them when they have them! Part author talk, part hands-on activity, Junior participants will leave with sure-fire idea-generating tips and their own "Super Duper Idea Catchers" for writing down all their big ideas!
Patricia J. Murphy is a writer/creator and ideator for BIG and little people, the owner and chief creative officer of Pattycake Productions, and a passionate literacy advocate. You can learn more about her at www.patriciajmurphy.com.
