# Read Freely

This month, celebrate the freedom to read and your right to access information! Did you know? October 11 is Let Freedom Read Day. Not only does it sound cool, it's a great opportunity to discover books that have sparked debate and change. It's also a time to show support for the library staff, educators, writers, publishers, and booksellers who ensure these books are available to everyone.

Ways to Celebrate

Jacksonville Public Library has an amazing collection of books featuring stories and information written by and about people from varied backgrounds, races, ethnicities, life experiences, and viewpoints. Celebrating your freedom to read could be as simple as checking out a book from from your neighborhood library branch that reflects or honors your lived experience. Or, you could try reading books about a person or group you'd like to understand better.

Not only will you get to see yourself (or a neighbor or a loved one) in the pages of these books—it proves that the community is interested in reading these stories. So those books, and others like them, stay on the shelf for the next reader to enjoy.
