# Celebrating Caribbean Americans
National Caribbean American Heritage Month is a time celebrate and recognize the vibrant and diverse mix of traditions, customs and historical contributions of Caribbean Americans to the United States. Caribbean people are some of the most ethnically diverse in the world with a rich tapestry of heritage from indigenous peoples to the African diaspora, European colonists, and other immigrants.
Many notable people of Caribbean descent have achieved success in the arts, military, U.S. government, and various fields. Prominent examples include: Colin Powell, Sonia Sotomayor, Rihanna, Lenny Kravitz, Nicki Minaj, Sidney Poitier, and Maya Angelou.
Jacksonville Public Library has an amazing collection of books featuring stories and information written by and about people from varied backgrounds, races, ethnicities, life experiences, and viewpoints. In June, we are highlighting books in our collection by and about Caribbean Americans.
