#Kanopy Free Movie and Documentary Screening Now Available
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Aug. 30, 2019 — Jacksonville Public Library has added Kanopy, an on-demand streaming service providing access to 30,000 classic and modern movies as well as documentaries, to its digital offerings, making it easier for library card holders to save big on quality entertainment. Kanopy is free for valid library card holders, and allows streaming movies and more anytime, anywhere—on TV, mobile phone, computer or online. Download the Kanopy app for iOS, Android, Apple TV or Chromecast.
Kanopy has something for everyone: Kanopy Kids includes curated movies and TV shows, both educational and engaging, and allows parental controls; more than 5,700 videos from The Great Courses, which is a series of college-level courses; videos from the Media Education Foundation to inspire critical thinking; and classic films from The Criterion Collection (Janus Collection). Costs of these premium services could add up to hundreds of dollars yearly, but with Kanopy, library card holders can choose from a virtually unlimited selection of indie and foreign films, hard-to-find titles, award-winning documentaries, critically-acclaimed movies, classic cinema, and educational videos that inspire, enrich and entertain—at no cost.
Popular contemporary and classic films include Oscar-winner Moonlight, Golden Globe winner Lady Bird and 1974 Oscar-winner Chinatown. Viewers can choose from hundreds of documentaries, including Oscar-nominated Of Fathers and Sons, I Am Not Your Negro, Abacus: Small Enough to Jail and Faces Places; Sundance winners Memento, Last Men in Aleppo and Seven Samurai; and The Lord of the Flies and Summertime from the Janus Films Criterion Collection.
To start using Kanopy, you will use your Jacksonville Public Library card number and PIN, create an account, and begin browsing. Patrons will be allowed six play credits—or six videos—a month.
