Dr. Matt Swanson is Associate Vice President of Financial Management at Jacksonville University. In this role, Matt is responsible for supporting student, employee, and stakeholder success through the strategic management and allocation of JU’s resources. Matt oversees the Controller’s Office (University Accounting), Budgets, Financial Planning and Analysis, Purchasing, Audits, and Campus Services. In addition, he serves as a strategic business partner to the University’s departments and leadership team and provides business advice and reports to the Chief Financial Officer, President, and Board of Trustees. Prior to accepting his position at JU, Matt served as Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration at Fletcher Technical Community College in Louisiana. While serving at Fletcher, Matt partnered with the college’s Chancellor and leadership team to oversee the business components of acquiring and operating a regional technical college, led in ensuring the sustainability of the institution despite multiple budget cuts, and coordinated efforts to improve employee recruitment, retention, and morale. Matt holds a Doctor of Business Administration, Master of Business Administration, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. His doctoral dissertation and research focused on the strategic impact of succession planning within higher education.
A native of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, Matt currently resides in the Riverside area of Jacksonville with his wife, Emily. Matt enjoys spending time with family and friends, serving his community, being on the water, the beach, baseball, exploring the great local restaurants Jacksonville has to offer, and, of course, reading. He has a life goal of attending a baseball game in every major league stadium and reading one book per month.
