Increase pre-literacy skills as you read together:

  • Before reading, ask your little one to point out and name the sea creatures.
  • Run a finger under the numerals and use your fingers to count the dots on each page.
  • Practice the names of parts of different sea creatures. For example, point to the dolphins' fins and ask your child what they are called.

#SING: A Family of the Sea

(Tune: Old MacDonald Had a Farm)

We’re the family of the sea,

The ocean is our home.

And in the seas there lives a whale

Who loves to play and roam.

With a spout spout here and a spout spout there.

Here a spout, there a spout,

Everywhere a spout, spout.

We’re the family of the sea,

The ocean is our home.

We’re the family of the sea,

The ocean is our home.

And in the seas there lives a fish

Who loves to play and roam.

With a swish swish here and a swish swish there.

Here a swish, there a swish,

Everywhere a swish, swish.

We’re the family of the sea,

The ocean is our home.

We’re the family of the sea,

The ocean is our home.

And in the seas there lives a crab

Who loves to play and roam.

With a pinch pinch here and a pinch pinch there.

Here a pinch, there a pinch,

Everywhere a pinch, pinch.

We’re the family of the sea,

The ocean is our home.

We’re the family of the sea,

The ocean is our home.

And in the seas there lives a seal

Who loves to play and roam.

With a bark bark here and a bark bark there.

Here a bark, there a bark,

Everywhere a bark, bark.

We’re the family of the sea,

The ocean is our home.
