#READ: I Sleep in a Big Bed by Maria van Lieshout
Use your library card or apply for an ecard here to access our digital library!
A child who used to sleep in a crib celebrates graduating to sleep in a big kids' bed--even though waking up there in the middle of the night can be a little scary.
Increase pre-literacy skills as you read together:
- Ask your little one about the colors and shapes on the blanket, pillow, and t-shirt in the book then ask about patterns, shapes, and colors on their favorite blanket, pillow, or toy.
- Run a finger under sounds like "gurgle" and "zzzzzzz" as your read them. Encourage your little one to repeat the sounds then run a finger under the sounds again as your little learner says them.
- Play a letter search game. Choose a letter such "b" or "g" and ask your little reader to point to the letter and say it whenever they see it.
#SING: Grow, Grow, Growing Up
(Tune: Row, Row, Row Your Boat)
Grow, grow, growing up
Growing every day.
I can feed myself now
I’m growing every day.
Grow, grow, growing up
Growing every day.
I can put my own shoes on
So I can go and play
Grow, grow, growing up
Growing every day.
I can dress myself now.
I’m growing up. Hooray!
Grow, grow, growing up
Growing every day.
I can carry all the books
that I will read some day
#EXPLORE: See How it Grows
Ways to explore
- Search with your little one for flowers, trees, or other plants and animals that are beginning to grow and those that have been growing for a while. For example, while walking or riding around, point out saplings then point out mature trees.
- Talk about what you find with your little learner. Show how some words have the same meaning by using "tiny" for "small" or "large" for "big."
