Learn about different vehicles that help us get from place to place as you fly high in a plane, sail in a boat, or ride along in a car in this week's books and activities!
#READ: Little Plane, Little Truck, and Little Boat by Tarō Gomi
Use your library card or apply for an ecard here to access our digital library!
Little Plane is learning to fly! When you're small and on the go, there's a lot to watch out for: tall trees, muddy hills, and more!
Little Truck is setting out to explore! He's going fast, climbing hills, and braving tunnels, being just the right amount of careful along the way.
When you're small and on the go, there's a lot to watch out for: big boats, waves, rain clouds, and more!
Increase pre-literacy skills as you read together:
- Pause periodically to ask your little one what they think is happening in the stories.
- Talk with your little learner about the colors of the vehicles and buildings.
- Act out the stories. For example, pretend to speed up and slow down with Little Truck.
SING: Things That Go
(Tune: The Elevator Song)
#EXPLORE: The Wheels Go
Materials
- Construction paper
- Colored pencils or crayons
- Scissors
Instructions
- Draw a set of wheels on a sheet of construction paper.
- Cut various shapes out of other sheets of construction.
- Build your vehicle! Mix and match shapes above the wheels to build different things that go. For example, stack a rectangle and square above the wheels to make a truck, stack two rectangles to make a bus, or place a triangle between the wheels to start building a bicycle.
