I like veggies, yes I do! I like veggies, how about you? This week we are making our food fun!
#READ – Little Pea by Amy Krouse Rosenthal

Use your library card or apply for an ecard here to access our digital library!
If Little Pea doesn't eat all of his sweets, there will be no vegetables for dessert! What's a young pea to do? Children who have trouble swallowing their veggies will love the way this pea-size picture book serves up a playful story they can relate to.
Increase pre-literacy skills as you read together:
- Have your little one look at the illustrations. What do they see?
- What is Little Pea doing? Where is he?
- What colors and patterns are on the candy?
- Does Little Pea look happy or sad?
- Ask your little one questions and talk about their answers.
- Would they want to eat candy for dinner everyday? Why or why not?
- Can they guess what Little Pea might have for dessert? Will it be other sweets or something else? Why do they think that?
- Use your fingers to count to count the five pieces of candy Little Pea eats and practice imitating the sounds he makes.

#EXPLORE – Spaghetti Painting

Cooked and drained spaghetti noodles, unrinsed Materials:
- Bowls
- Food coloring
- Spoons for mixing
- Paper plate or sheet of paper
Instructions:
- Divide the cooked and drained spaghetti noodles between the bowls.
- Add food coloring to the bowls to create the desired colors.
- Stir the spaghetti until it is coated with the food coloring.
- Remove spaghetti noodles one at a time and stick them onto the paper plate or sheet. The stickiness of the noodles should secure them to the paper.
- Continue this to create artwork.
- Let the spaghetti art dry overnight.
Talk:
- What does the spaghetti feel like?
- What colors do you want to use?
- Why do you think the spaghetti sticks to the paper? [the starch in the noodles makes them sticky]
