ReadingPals Book Drive

Friday, August 31, 2018

Jacksonville Public Library is teaming up with the United Way ReadingPals program once again for a book drive! Jacksonville Public Library and United Way of Northeast Florida are asking for donations of new or nearly new storybooks for children ages 3 – 4. Bring books to any library location, and sign a special bookplate. Books that include a personalized bookplate with your name will be given to a ReadingPals child. Books may also be purchased through the ReadingPals Amazon.com Wish List. Donate a new or like-new book when you join the party at our International Literacy Day Celebration Sept. 8 at a branch near you.

ReadingPals is a volunteer-based early literacy initiative that provides mentors for Pre-K students  who may need extra help, utilizing one-on-one or small group settings.

For 30 minutes each week, a ReadingPals volunteer spends time with a pair of preschoolers, reading a book, completing activities, and developing skills that the children will need for success in school. Each child participating in the ReadingPals initiative also receives at least ten books to help build their home library.
