At our upcoming history programs, we’re discussing Giant Ground Sloths and Bermuda Triangle extraterrestrial activity. Bet you didn’t think you’d learn about these topics at the library. These aren’t your average history lectures!
An engaging history program on the horizon covers a popular mysterious topic—the Bermuda Triangle. We’ve all heard the tall tales of the Bermuda Triangle. It’s well-known as a place where ships and airplanes go and never return. Some believe that unpredictable storms combined with clumsy navigation often account for the staggering loss of property and lives.
Others believe that storms and navigation are not to blame, though, theorizing that the supernatural is involved. Could turmoil in the Bermuda Triangle be caused by Atlantian power crystals, alien interference, portals to other worlds, or some other element of the unknown? Join us to find out!
Speaker Patrick McCormack will present his knowledge of the Bermuda Triangle at the Pablo Creek Regional Library on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018 at 3 p.m. McCormack provides destination-related historical and anthropological knowledge. He often gives lectures on cruise ships, offering tours of international waters while setting sail.
Coming up on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, the Argyle Branch Library will host Ancient Florida: From Mega-fauna to the First Snow-Birds, a program on Florida creatures of yesteryear.
Even though Christopher Columbus never set foot in Florida, our state was a stomping ground for other Conquistadors. They walked in the 10,000-year-old footprints of natives who lived alongside the Saber Tooth Tiger and the Giant Ground Sloth.
Didn’t know sloths could be gigantic? Then it may also surprise you that armadillos were once the size of Volkswagen Beetles and weighed over two tons! For as long as the Earth has turned, Florida has been a playground for unique living creatures.
