Record and preserve your memories in the library’s Florida Collection!
The StoryCorps Mobile Tour is here in Jacksonville from November 18 through December 21, 2018! StoryCorps is an oral history project that travels around the United States to record stories from people of all generations, beliefs, and backgrounds. Their mobile recording studio can be found in Riverside’s Memorial Park. The Jax Makerspace is using our recording equipment to join in the interviewing fun!
Family Ties: Weaving Narratives of Northeast Florida runs December 3 through December 31. Do you live, work, or study in Northeast Florida? Just arrived or lived here your whole life? Bring a friend or family member to the Jax Makerspace at the Main Library and interview them. We’d love for you to tell your stories of Jacksonville, or stories that happened in Jacksonville! We have a list of StoryCorps’ 100 Great Questions on hand to help you get started.
Most StoryCorps interviews last about 40 minutes. You can reserve our equipment for up to 2 hours per day via the Jacksonville Public Library’s website. Please note: one person in the party will need a library card. If you choose to donate your interview to our Florida Collection, all interview members will need to sign a waiver. Of course, you can also simply save your interview to your personal USB or cloud account!
Need inspiration? The library collaborated with WJCT in 2010 to launch a similar project, Voices of the First Coast. The item record for the interviews can be found in our library catalog. Visit the fourth floor of the Main Library to listen to the interviews!
