3 Ways to Celebrate Literacy Week at Your Local Library!

Sunday, January 26, 2020

January 27 - January 31, 2020 is Literacy Week! This year's theme is "Book Your Trip: Adventure Awaits!" Here are three ways to inspire young readers to go on an adventure of their own through the use of literature:

1. Get Your Child A Library Card of Their Own. Letting your child check out a book of their choice with their very own library card instills a sense of excitement and responsibility. Frequent visits to the library introduce young learners to a world of book genres that help you define what is particularly interesting and engaging to your child.

2. Attend a Library Program with Your Child. The Jacksonville Public Library hosts so many library programs and activities that are not only a blast for kids, but educational as well. Free library programs get children excited about reading and encourages a lifelong love of learning. Browse through our events to find storytimes, arts and crafts, special events and more.

3. Set Reading Goals with Your Child. Encouraging your child to read new and challenging books is a great way to establish an effective reading routine. You can even throw in little incentives to up the anty and get kids enthusiastic about reading. The library is a wonderful way to keep those bookshelves stocked and reading goals met!
