The types of questions we can answer via email:

We can answer questions with simple, factual answers, such as:
  • What is the capital of Bolivia?
  • When was the Spanish-American War?
  • Who is the CEO of Dell?

We can refer you to other sources of information, such as:

  • Websites
  • Other libraries
  • Organizations that specialize in the topic of your question

The types of questions we cannot answer via email:

Some questions are outside the scope of email reference service. For assistance with these types of questions, please visit one of our convenient library locations where a librarian can help direct your research. Click the "About the Library" link for library locations and hours.

We cannot answer questions that require lengthy research or complex answers, such as:

  • "What is the history of the Catholic Church in Spain?" or
  • "Do you have a list of all the retirement homes in Florida?"

We cannot answer questions that require interpretation or analysis, such as:

  • "What is the significance of 'Rosebud' in Orson Wells' Citizen Kane?"

We cannot answer homework questions that require more than concise, factual answers, such as:

  • "May I have an outline of The Hobbit?"
  • "How can I pick a topic for my history paper?"

Although we can quote mathematical formulas, we do not provide answers to mathematical calculations, such as:

  • "What is 30% of 245?"

We cannot answer questions that require legal or medical advice, such as:

  • "What forms do I need to file for divorce in Florida?" or
  • "I have a headache and have been bitten by mosquitoes. Do I have West Nile Virus?"
