Are you looking for an opportunity to use your talents and expertise, to make new friends or to learn new skills? Do you love books? Do you find yourself at the Library often? If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, then the Jacksonville Public Library is looking for you.   Join the citizens who are stepping forward to make a difference in our community by volunteering at the Library.

Who can volunteer?

The Library welcomes all citizens - 16 and older* - who have a desire to make a difference.

* - Teens, ages 12 - 15, can volunteer during the summer vacation if participating in the Florida Library Youth program.

Why should I volunteer?

• Volunteers are needed!
• Volunteering enhances job skills and provides work experiences that can be added to your resume.
• Volunteers learn more about the library and what it has to offer.
• Volunteers develop a better understanding of the city government and serve as ambassadors within the community.
• Volunteers get the opportunity to work in a library setting.
• Volunteers can accumulate community hours for school.

Volunteers are a vital part of improving the quality of life in our city.   JPL offers both short-term and long-term volunteer opportunities. We are sure you will find something rewarding that will fit your schedule at the same time.

Complete an online Volunteer Application and someone will contact you shortly about volunteering. Depending upon assignment, a background screening may be required.

Attention students! A recommendation letter and parental permission form are required. The recommendation letter should be completed by a teacher, guidance counselor, employer (paid or unpaid), clergy, or anyone of authority whom the applicant reported to perform a function. Recommendation letters from friends, neighbors, and family members cannot be accepted.
